I enjoy barbecuing, but before I go any further, let me define what barbecue is all about. It is NOT about steaks or hamburgers or hotdogs. That is called grilling. Many, many, many people associate barbecue with grilling. But when I talk about barbecue. I mean true Southern (Southern United States) barbecue. Anyhow, its been a hobby of mine for the past few years. Many good times have come from it. My current cooker is probably one of the best investments i've ever made. For it has provided hours of entertainment. This past June I was approached by a co-worker who asked me to barbecue for his party. An anniversary party for his parents. This was the first time i've ever done something like the sort, and was quite an experience. Things of course, didn't work out the first day, so I ended up staying up all night fixing things. For example, I was using a barbecue that i've never used before (won't do that again!), and it didn't cooperate with me. So, I packed up all of the meat and went home to my 'old faithful'. Unfortunately, my cooker can only handle 3 slabs of ribs at a time. Now, when you only want 3 slabs its a good cooker. But I needed to cook 12 slabs! 3 at a time just wouldn't work out. To make a long story short. Everything worked out in the end, and everyone loved the outcome of the ribs. I've always dreamt of having a restaurant. But i'm a cautious person; I like taking things (when it costs money) one step at a time, re-evaluting things at each step. My friend who I cooked for, has agreed to become my partner in a barbecue business. To me that is huge. I always think that it happens to someone else. Not me, no way. I'm just an average joe with big dreams. But it did happen. And we have a target goal of May. So we have just under 3 months of getting everything together. We won't be starting a restaurant. We will be vending at Farmers Markets, while offering a catering service. Once we get established, an actual building/restaurant will be talked about. I of course won't be quitting my day job any time soon. Which really means, I won't have any days off. I'll be working 7 days a week. Thats gonna be tough, but in the big picture it's nothing. What does this mean for savIRC development? Well, I really do hope we can continue making releases atleast once a year. The business i'm getting into, will really only be busy during the summer months, which means i'll have my weekends back. In the big scheme of things, it may mean big things for savIRC. But we'll see. :)
