While the Settings window is merely just a pretty face without actually working, this is the time to polish it. Sometime ago I was fairly displeased with how the standard listbox held their elements too close to the edge. I searched for a solution, but I found none that was acceptable. Until now. A package that I used in a few spots came to the rescue. Tablelist. I was able to cut it down to only offer one column, and remove the headers. Thus it looks just like the regular listbox. :) A maturing windowSubmitted by Casey on February 5, 2008 - 7:06pm.
A few posts ago, I blogged about how I was working on a new Settings window and had committed it to our svn repository. Well, phobie tried it out and reported back that it looked like crap on his machine. Of which I requested some screenshots. And indeed he was right. What was the fatal flaw? Well, there were a few issues. 1. I try to stay away from hard-coding sizes, but for a few entry/listbox widgets, I put in a certain size. 2. I didn't make the widgets expand to use up all available space left over. On Real LifeSubmitted by Casey on January 27, 2008 - 8:20pm.
I enjoy barbecuing, but before I go any further, let me define what barbecue is all about. It is NOT about steaks or hamburgers or hotdogs. That is called grilling. Many, many, many people associate barbecue with grilling. But when I talk about barbecue. I mean true Southern (Southern United States) barbecue. Anyhow, its been a hobby of mine for the past few years. Many good times have come from it. My current cooker is probably one of the best investments i've ever made. For it has provided hours of entertainment. A day of coding ... Kind of.Submitted by Casey on January 20, 2008 - 9:22pm.
So, today phobie and I spoke via email. He's fairly busy with his schooling. And I look forward to him being able to seeing more commits from him. I can't speak for myself, seeing as how i've been busy as hell aswell. SVN CommitSubmitted by Casey on January 20, 2008 - 8:48am.
So, today i've finally comitted the Settings dialog to svn. There is now a new menu item in Control for launching the dialog. As of today, savIRC requires Tcl/Tk 8.5. For alot of you it shouldn't matter, and hopefully for future releases it won't really matter to the vast majority. Since we're looking at using and shipping Tclkit along with the savIRC sources. So, for the past several months i've been working on a shiny new Settings window. Today i've finished up with the last little bit of creating the interface. Now comes the hair-pulling part. Integrating it with savIRC, and getting it to work. Hopefully it won't be that difficult. I have to first sort through the relevant savIRC code, then pull out all the little variables and helper functions that the Settings window needs; finally tie it into the code. Greetings and Salutations!Submitted by Casey on January 19, 2008 - 4:29am.
Hello everyone, I have had great reservation starting a blog. Simply because I know that if the task is not simple to accomplish (and voluntary), then I tend to get lazy about such things, like a blog! Well, I figured it was time I atleast try! So why now? Well, last night I was coding on the new Settings dialog and came across a rather irritating syntax error. And thought that this was the kind of stuff that no one hears or thinks about as they use Software. So, here I am. |
