About savIRC

savIRC is an Open Source IRC Client written in Tcl/Tk. It was created by Saverio Castellano.

Casey and Phobie now continue the development.

savIRC has many features that the popular IRC clients have.
Some of the unique features are:

* Cross Platform, currently runs on Unix-like OS's and Windows (Mac is untested)
* Text Preview when using Color/Bold/Underline codes
* Anti-flood so you can copy a story and paste it all at once, and savIRC throttles how much text is sent.
* Multiple Network Connections
* Many more ...

Monthly Update (February 8th, 2009)

This has been a fairly productive time. Atleast since Jan. 24th.

You can now, double-click on a url and have it open in your default browser, even if the person posting it, surrounded it with angle brackets < >.

You can now change an existing channel key through the Channel Settings window.

The /silence command is now supported.

I have started updating the source code to use 8.5 specific code. Yes, this now means nothing older than 8.5 will work. This was a conscious decision for the better. ttk support, need I say anything else? :)

Cleaning House

My, was it getting dusty around here!

Thanks goes out to Andre, his innocent question prompted me to dig around in my cleaning supplies and get out the 'ol polishing compound and rag!

So, what have I done?

Download Links

Apparently the savIRC packages for the latest version where removed from the webhost. I have uploaded the correct versions, and the Download links now work.

Mockups

I have been working on creating a new Settings window.

Here are the mockups; while most are complete some are not, and subject to change.

For the developers out there; I am writing this with tile (ttk::) in mind, since it was released with Tcl/Tk 8.5.

For the End Users out there; this means that savIRC has the ability to become sexy. No longer will it look ugly on your system, atleast it won't be the toolkits fault anymore. :)

Spam

Due to the spam we are getting, I've had to disallow anonymous posts. However, that hasn't stopped all of it. I am now disabling 'suspicious' accounts. If yours has been disabled, and you are not a Spam Bot; please contact me. You can find the info through the menu list to the left.

Progress Report: April 2007

This month has seen a lot of activity in reporting new bugs, or updating the descriptions of existing bugs.

We are currently working on designing a new Settings window. (Finally!) Work on that seems to be slowing down, and ready for the implementation stage. Next month I'll report on how that is going.

If you could change one thing about how savIRC works, what would it be?

Release News

Phobie and I are proud to release savIRC 2.1.

Below is an overview of what we've done, and what new improvements you can expect to see in 2.1

For a more complete ChangeLog please visit (Must login to view): http://www.savirc.com/bugs/changelog_page.php
Those who do not have a mantis account, you'll find the changelog at the end of this post.

The savIRC handbook has been updated to reflect things that have changed in 2.1

The savIRC project utilizes ROBOdoc to document its source code. We are slowly incorporating this, so you can expect to see more 'developer' oriented docs appearing in the coming months.

Features:
* Added "Show idle pings" to Configuration --> IRC
* Added a checkbox to hide serverpings.
* /disconnect now stops autoreconnect
* Anti-Flood: Chunks of text are broken into 400 chars or less. This prevents you from flooding yourself off.
* If you receive this error: "YourNick :Erroneous Nickname". savIRC will try an alternate.

Development Improvements:
We are getting much closer to issuing one command to generate a release!

* Unix-Like: We now have two Makefiles. Makefile.am and Makefile. The former is for the end-user when installing on their system. Makefile is used for the developers.

* Windows: We have two .bat files. One is for generating a Monthly Build, the other is for generating an actual release with Installer. The only difference is one creates a .zip file, while the other creates an installer.
